VII ACADEMY
MASTERCLASS
Project: Style, Identity and Dreams (Mtaa Humble) Ongoing
The VII Photo Agency "Rising Fast: Africa’s Changing Urban Spaces" Workshop in Nairobi is defined as an elite, field-driven masterclass.
It is designed for advanced and professional documentary photographers to visually capture the intersection of rapid development and structural reality.
Participants utilize Nairobi as a living laboratory to examine how rapid infrastructure booms, massive demographic growth, and changing socio-economic landscapes collide with real-life survival.
The curriculum rejects superficial, standard media portrayals of Africa. It forces visual storytellers to construct highly complex, deeply researched, multi-layered photographic essays.Master Mentorship:
The workshop is led directly by legendary VII Foundation and agency visual journalists—including Nairobi-based photojournalist Nichole Sobecki and American documentarian Danny Wilcox Frazier.
Running as an intensive 7-day immersion program, the curriculum combines daily field assignments with highly demanding evening editing, sequencing, and critique sessions.
