The resulting archive functions as a critical counter-narrative to sanitized or moralistic documentations of systemic displacement.
The imagery deliberately embraces the visceral, fractured, and chaotic spatial realities of the informal settlement, documenting the Wanakolo family not as passive symbols of structural violence, but as active agents navigating a hostile socio-economic landscape.
Through intentional formal choices—including unconventional framing, raw lighting, and the integration of environmental textures—the project exposes the friction between public urban space and private domesticity.
Ultimately, the work serves as a self-reflexive critique of the photographic medium itself, interrogating the ethical limits of documentary practice, the commodification of marginalized bodies, and the complex relational dynamics inherent in visual truth-making.
